Opera Preview: Cosi Fan Tutte

Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte is the third and last of his collaborations with librettist Lorenzo da Ponte (the other two collaborations were the Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni). Even though Cosi was commissioned by the Emperor, its first performance in Vienna in 1790 was not a success. Nineteenth century audiences found Cosi's "battle of the sexes" too scandalous to be endured, but twentieth century opera audiences liked it. Now it is performed as frequently as the other Mozart/DaPonte operas with 2 good reasons: a fun, if goofy plot, and fabulous music. Don't miss it! This free lecture, provided to increase enjoyment and appreciation of Seattle Opera productions, will feature speaker Norm Hollingshead with recorded musical excerpts.
